The World's Best Christmas Sugar Cookies
If you’ll like me, you’re always looking for an excuse to bake! I live for getting out my decorating kit: pretty copper cookie cutters, sprinkles & imagining I’m going to use ALL my fancy piping bags & tips! I love stalking Pinterest for the cutest icing ideas! Eeeeee! It’s probably even better than all the baking & decorating! (Probably because it’s so much less work!) :)
My girlfriends & I get together for nearly every holiday to make sugar cookies! It started with Christmas cookies a few years ago & has turned into a super fun tradition where we watch girl porn (aka chick flicks), drink wine & catch up. We’re baking this Thursday so I’m stalking all the cute decorating ideas!
Instead of trying to ice my cookies with 18 colors like I’m some crazy cookie 5 year old, I ’m dreaming of simple white icing with white piping this year. Seems elegant & simpler, no? Just need to find some pretty silver dragnets & sprinkles! (#notorganic)
Okay, some of these look a bit too advanced like they came from Peggy Porschen’s of London (major major Swoon).
But a girl can dream her sugar cookies will look like this! Right?
Okay… the recipe! Here’s my “go to” aka “The Best Sugar Cookie Recipe in the World!”
Note! The key to this recipe is refrigeration & parchment paper. Cool the dough before & after handling & use a little powdered sugar or flour when rolling it out! *I like to portion the dough on parchment paper (4 portions) which I roll out, cut my shapes, mush the left over dough in a ball & put back in the freezer while I roll out another portion. The colder the dough is when it goes in the oven, the sharper your shapes will be.
1.5 cups butter (softened)
3.5 cups white sugar
2 t vanilla extract
1 t almond & orange extract (each)
5 cups flour (sifted)
2 t baking powder
1 t salt
Cream butter & sugar until whipped!
Beat eggs then add with all the flavor extracts
Add sifted flour, baking powder & salt - stir until blended in
Cover & Chill at least 1 hour
Baking: 350 F for 7 minutes
Preheat oven to 350 while cookies are chilling
Roll out dough on parchment paper (have a little extra flour on hand) 1/3” thick
Cut shapes and keep chilled until ready to bake
Bake for 7 minutes
Best Frosting in the World

1/2 cup butter - soft
2 t vanilla
1/2 t orange & almond extract (each)
